Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare True HEPA Air Purifier Review

The Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare True HEPA Air Purifier with Germ Reduction is an air purifier which features a HEPA filter and two-level cleaning system. It is one of the most recommended air purifiers of Honeywell, along with True HEPA and QuietClean. The two-level cleaning system guarantees 99.97% of microscopic allergens air purification. Air pollutants ranging from 0.3 microns and larger are trapped inside the filters, including smoke, pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, germs, odors, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The HEPA filter helps minimize germs and eliminates odors that typical air filters cannot. It is also incorporated with an Intelli-Check Filter Monitor, which enables the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare to monitor the filter life usage and remind the user when a filter replacement is necessary. To ensure quality, Honeywell products are manufactured with SurroundSeal Technology to prevent air leaks during filtration.

Honeywell 17000-S Air Purifier Features

  • Most Honeywell air purifiers have five basic components, including the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare. The base assembly or the exterior component contains the controls. Since the push button controls are electronically operated, the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare produces less noise and hassle. Inside the air purifier are the Activated Carbon Pre-filter and HEPA filter which are responsible for the cleaning and purifying process. For convenience, this air purifier is also equipped with Intelli-Check Filter Monitors to measure the number of hours the air purifier is used. If the life span of the filters is maximized, the filter monitors will give a warning to change the filters. The other components of the air purifier include the locking mechanism and the end cap.
  • The two-level cleaning and purifying system of the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare air purifier involves the Activated Carbon Pre-filter and the True HEPA filter. The Activated Carbon Pre-filter is responsible for capturing larger particles polluting the air such as lint, smoke, pollen, dust, and pet dander. This first layer of air filter can be re-used after cleaning it for a period of three months. Aside from the Activated Carbon Pre-filter, the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare uses a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter which is a mechanical air filter used to trap fine and harmful particles in the air. Air purifiers infused with HEPA filters are able to trap more air pollutants and minimize allergy-causing pollens. The HEPA filter can capture germs, odors, and VOCs which may pass through the Activated Carbon Pre-filter. Compared to the Activated Carbon Pre-filter, the HEPA filter will remain effective for 1 to 3 years depending on the usage.
  • With the True HEPA filter, the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare air purifier can cover an extra large room size up to 350 square feet. At best, to maximize the air purifying capability of the air purifier, the recommended size for closed rooms is 200 square feet. The product measures 15.8 inches x 13.1 inches x 17.1 inches and weights around 19 pounds. It is best recommended for use in office rooms and kitchen areas. This product is also AHAM Verifide, which means that the product was able to meet the standards of the AHAM Verifide program for energy testing. Thus, this product uses less energy but still performs efficiently.

Pros

  • The HEPA filter really works and traps a lot of dust and pollens from the air, especially in areas where there are carpets or rugs. In one month the filters have collected a layer of dust and other air particles already.
  • Works relatively quiet on low and medium power and doesn’t disturb sleep during the night.
  • The Activated Carbon Pre-filter is affordable and can be cleaned for re-using. The trapped air pollutants are visibly seen on the black blanket.

Cons

  • Although quiet, the air purifier releases a foul odor similar to plastic or rubber burning. The metal parts heat the plastic parts inside which produce a terrible smell instead of fresh air.

The Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare is one of the recommended and inexpensive air purifiers with a HEPA filter. The HEPA filter is the advantage of this product because it adds another layer to its air purifying process. People who have allergies or easily get infected by germs will find this product convenient. Another great feature which a lot of users commend is the Activated Carbon Pre-filter because it can be re-used and it is also inexpensive. However, even with the electric push buttons, the Honeywell 17000-S QuietCare still produces a humming noise when used at medium or heavy setting. It is also not recommended to use for long periods of time because it can overheat if used for 12 hours straight. Nonetheless, it comes with a 5-year warranty just in case a problem with the product is experienced.
